38th ASEANAPOL Database System Technical Committee (ADSTC) Meeting Lao PDR 13-14 February 2024

The 38th ASEANAPOL Database System Technical Committee (ADSTC) Meeting was held in Vientiane, Lao PDR on 13-14 February 2024. The meeting discussed the status of the system and feasible enhancement of the electronic ASEANAPOL Database System or e-ADS 2.0. The e-ADS is a system designed to facilitate the sharing of information among ASEANAPOL member countries (AMCs) towards the common goal of combating transnational organized crime.
The meeting was chaired by Police Colonel Thongkhanh Sysouphanthong, Director of Interpol Department, Lao Police Force and co-chaired by ACP Dr. Bakri bin Zainal Abidin, Director for Police Services of ASEANAPOL Secretariat. The delegates representing their respective Police Organizations were from Royal Brunei Police Force, Cambodian National Police, Indonesian National Police, Lao People's Democratic Republic, Myanmar Police Force, Philippine National Police, Singapore Police Force, Royal Thai Police, and The Office of Investigation Police Agency, Ministry of Public Security, Viet Nam.
The e-ADS appointed vendor was present with the ASEANAPOL Secretariat (AS) representative, namely: ACP Dr. Bakri bin Zainal Abidin and DSP Chan Yew Hiok.
The meeting was officially inaugurated by the Guest of Honour, H.E Police Brigadier Kenechanh Phommachack, Deputy Chief of Lao Police Force, Ministry of Public Security (former Executive Director of the Secretariat). In his speech, he expressed his appreciation for its efforts in facilitating the relentless fight against transnational organized crime and encouraged the participants to actively participate in the discussions.
On behalf of the ASEANAPOL Executive Director David Martinez Vinluan, ACP Dr. Bakri Zainal Abidin read his message, among others, the Executive Director expressed the need to “call to action” and make the e-ADS a reliable tool to be used in operational law enforcement activities against Transnational Organized Crime affecting the region. In the end analysis, he expressed: “…let us do this to ensure the protection of our children’s children future. Let us ensure that our children’s children will have a safer place to Live, to Work and to do business…”.
The meeting concluded with the chairman extending his appreciation to all participants for their active participation and insightful contributions.
