INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON EXTREMIST IDEOLOGY SPREADING, MOSCOW FROM 26 – 27 SEPTEMBER 2023

On behalf of ASEAN National Police organization, the Executive Director of ASEANAPOL Secretariat, Police Brigadier Zaw Lin Tun attended as a guest presenter in conjunction to the two days forum organized by the Ministry of Interior of Russian Federation called International Conference on Extremist Ideology Spreading in Moscow from 26 – 27 September 2023. Accompanied by Police Services Officer II, Assistant Superintendent of Police Khairul Izham Md Noh, the forum which congregated almost forty-four (44) countries and like-minded entities namely Russian Federation, Nicaragua, Panama, Saudi Arabia, South Ossetia, Syria, Serbia, Sudan, El-Salvador, Tajikistan, Türkiye, Uzbekistan, Venezuela, Vietnam, Algeria, Abkhazia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Brazil, Bolivia, Central African Republic, Republic of Chad, Qatar, China, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Democratic Republic of Congo, Dominican Republic, Egypt, Ethiopia, Honduras, India, Iran, Kazakstan, Kyrgyzstan, Mali, Mexico, Myanmar, Regional Anti-Terrorist Structure of Shanghai Cooperation Organization (RATS-SCO), Bureau for Coordination of the Fight against Organized Crime and other Serious Crimes in the Territory of the CIS Member States (BCFOC), The Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) and The Commonwealth of Independent States Anti-Terrorism Center (CIS-ATC) aimed to explore the causes challenges and responses to far-right and anti-institutional extremism in a world of flux.  

An insight of ASEANAPOL shared by its Executive Director, Pol. Brigadier General Zaw Lin Tun by pointed out the essential of inter-agency cooperation in ensuring the integrated collaborative effort amongst the global major stakeholder and law enforcement agencies to ensure a comprehensive prevention are taken collectively to combat the discussed issues. In confronting the existing formidable challenge, there is a need for aggressively promote the values of inclusive development, tolerance and respect for diversity. Fostering international cooperation that transcends national boundaries are crucial, through which extremism is a global menace that necessities a united world response. Having mentioned on that, the nations must come together in solidarity, sharing intelligence, best practises and vital resources to effectively counter extremist networks and disrupt their online presence.

Admitted from the roundtable presentation which was chaired by His Excellency Deputy Minister of the Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation, Mr. A Khrapov, all the participants allude that violent extremism and terrorism are still continue to present challenges locally, nationally and globally, hence the forum indeed has discussed / shared various of different initiatives in further develop the preventive work and it was manifested a significant potential future collaboration within ASEANAPOL and others renowned participating countries /entities in forging partnership for constantly synergize the efforts against the global threats in building a safer and secure global community by enhancing harmonization to ensure the regional peace and stability.

In – conjunction to the two (2) days of the conference, the Executive Director of ASEANAPOL Secretariat then paid a courtesy call to the Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation, H.E Igor N. Zubov whilst addressing on the each other’s organizational mandate, objectives and possibly synchronize efforts of effective response followed by a discussion on the causes / dynamics of the evolving challenges on anti – institutional extremism and terrorism which associated to the syndicated - organized crimes involving the global issues of transnational criminal network.
