MEETING WITH MASTERCARD 20th September 2023

On 20th September 2023, a meeting took place between the Mastercard Asia Pacific and the ASEANAPOL Secretariat, aimed to collaborate and addressing the challenges faced by law enforcement agencies, particularly the developments in fraud detection across borders and instantaneous confirmation within the ASEAN region.

Mastercard delegates were represented by Mr. Karthik Ramanathan, Senior Vice President of Cyber and Intelligence Solutions; Mr. Rajat Maheshwari, Vice President of Product Management; Ms. Anjum Rahber, Vice President of Cyber and Intelligence, together with the ASEANAPOL Secretariat (AS).  The AS representatives include Pol. Brig. Gen. Zaw Lin Tun (Executive Director), Police Senior Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Huu Ngoc (Director of Plans and Programmes), DSP Chan Yew Hiok (Police Services Officer I) and ASP Khairul Izham Md Noh (Police Services Officer II).

The meeting commenced with AS Executive Director welcoming the Mastercard team’s visit AS office. He also expressed the commitment of AS in extending the working relationship between ASEANAPOL and Mastercard.

In response, the Senior Vice President of Cyber and Intelligence Solutions, reaffirmed their interest and affirmed their support to provide AS and its member countries with a systematic approach of knowledge and skills development capacity building and training to keep all law enforcement officials with the latest criminal trends.

The key discussions of the meeting are focused on the following topics:

(1) Collaboration needs to be based on ASEANAPOL working regulations and administrative guidelines;

(2) The initiatives for co-operation shall be based on information sharing and to include those related to threats to trades. This information sharing will be passed from AS to all AMCs; and

(3) Sustainable training on cybersecurity, blockchains and intelligence threats are to be customised to suit the contemporary criminal trends. Such trainings are to include all AMCs and to include Dialogue Partners and Observer based on the Mastercard budget;

The meeting concluded with both parties expressing their gratitude for their shared commitment for future collaborations.
