The Principal Assistant Director of D3 Division, Criminal Investigation Department, Royal Malaysia Police, Senior Assistant Commissioner of Police, Fadil bin Hj. Marsus, accompanied by Superintendent of Police Koh Teck Chew and senior officers from D3 had a courtesy visit to the ASEANAPOL Secretariat in Kuala Lumpur on 16th June 2022. His visit was generously welcomed by the Executive Director of ASEANAPOL Secretariat, Police Brigadier General Zaw Lin Tun accompanied by Police Senior Superintendent Joni Getamala, as Director for Police Services, Police Superintendent Tang Yik Tung as Director for Plans and Programmes, and fellow officers.

           The purpose of the meeting was to discuss further the collaboration to tackle the issue of Trafficking in Persons (TIPs) and the smuggling of migrants. In addition to information exchange, the ASEANAPOL Secretariat would assist D3 in coordinating with three (3) ASEANAPOL Member Countries, namely, CNP, LPF and MPF, in combating the syndicates whose activities have been rampant in our region targeting Malaysian citizens.

The meeting started with the introduction from the Executive Director of the ASEANAPOL Secretariat pertaining to the cases of Trafficking in Persons that have been reported by the D3 Division that a number of victims were trafficked to several countries such as Cambodia, Loas and Myanmar. This was followed with a presentation by Supt. Koh Teck Chew which highlighted the activities and the modus operandi of the syndicates in various ASEAN countries.

During the meeting both parties discussed and exchanged information related to those cases that have been channeled by the D3 to ASEANAPOL Contact persons through Secretariat’s platform. Secretariat proposes that there is possibility of implementing collaboration among the ASEAN Member Countries in preventing and countering cases of trafficking in persons targeting the masterminds of this crime in the coming days.

 At the end of the meeting, SAC Fadil bin Hj. Marsus used the opportunity to appreciate the Secretariat in playing a role in assisting RMP and tackling the aforementioned cases.
