ASEANAPOL ATTENDING THE 89th INTERPOL GENERAL ASSEMBLY, 23-25 NOVEMBER 2021 IN ISTANBUL, TURKEY.

After two years postponement of conducted General Assembly, the 89th INTERPOL General Assembly (the 89th IGA) was hosted  by NCB Ankara on 23-25 November 2021 in Istanbul, Turkey. The 89th IGA attended by 164 Member Countries, 18 Agencies as an observers and around 664 participants. ASEANAPOL attend the 89th IGA as an observer with the aim of ensuring and promoting the widest possible mutual assistance between INTERPOL and key external entities.

 The 89th IGA was inaugurated by President of Turkey, Mr Recep Tayyip ERDOGAN. On his recorded video, the president are welcoming all participants in the city “where civilazation meet”. This IGA was the 3rd time of Tukey hosted the IGA after 1955 and 1996. The President of Turkey remarks is completing the speech of Mr Mehmet AKTAS, Director General of Turkish National Police and the speech of Mr Suleyman SOYLU, Minister of Interior of Turkey.

 In the panel on how collaboration, innovation & proacticity across the international law enforcement architecture, Deputy Minister of Public Security Vietnam, Mr Nguyen Duy Ngoc is one of the panelist which was conveyed the participation of NCB Hanoi in taking part supprting the role of INTERPOL. Since early 2020, the Vietnam Police has coordinated with INTERPOL and its member countries to investigate and verify more than 500 transnational cases, and arrest more than 223 wanted fugitives.

 The 89th IGA has endorsed the Federated States of Micronesia as the 195th INTERPOL Member which was voted by 140 members (consist of 132 approved, 3 abstains and 5 rejected). The 89th IGA also has endorsed Memorandum of Understanding between INTERPOL and the Arab Interior Ministers’ Council (AIMC), Memorandum of Understanding between INTERPOL and  the World of Organisation for Animal Health (OIE), and Memorandum of Understanding between INTERPOL and the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP).

 In side activity of attending of the 89th IGA, Director for Police Services (DPS) of ASEANAPOL Secretariat, Police Snr. Supt Joni Getamala as representatives of ASEANAPOL participated the IGA, has coducted the bilateral meeting with the Bangladesh Police Force which was discussed pertaining with initiative project in locating suspects proposed by Royal Brunei Police Force and also about the progress of application of the Bangladesh Police Force as an observer of ASEANAPOL. The DPS of ASEANAPOL Secretariat also made bilateral meeting with Deputy Minister of Public Security Vietnam, Mr Nguyen Duy Ngoc as current chairman of ASEANAPOL. In this meeting, current chair of ASENAPOL supported the Secretariat to endorse the smooth handing over of chairmanship ASEANAPOL from OIPA Vietnam to Cambodian National Police in the coming the 40th ASEANAPOL Conference 2022. Current chair of ASEANAPOL also shared some suggestion in order to upgrade the role of ASEANAPOL particularly in combating transnational crime around South East Asia region by maximizing cooperation between ASEANAPOL Member Countries.
