AIMING TO ESTABLISH A MULTI-LATERAL PLATFORM AMONG POLICE TRAINING INSTITUTIONS (PTIS) IN ASIA WITH A VIEW OF PROMOTING UNDERSTANDING ON THE ADVANTAGES OF WORKING TOGETHER FOR THE ADVANCEMENT OF COMMON INTEREST, RAISE AWARENESS AND BUILD CONSENSUS ON THE NEEDS FOR MULTILATERAL COOPERATION IN POLICE TRAINING AND EXPLORE OPPORTUNITIES AND CHART WAY-FORWARD THROUGH INSTITUTIONALIZED REGIONAL COOPERATION, THE ASSOCIATION OF POLICE TRAINING INSTITUTIONS IN ASIA (APTA), HELD ITS INAUGURAL MEETING AT THE KOREAN NATIONAL POLICE UNIVERSITY (KNPU), THE REPUBLIC OF KOREA FROM 21 TO 23 FEBRUARY 2017.

THE MEETING WITH THE THEME OF “SHARED GROWTH THROUGH COOPERATION” WAS ATTENDED BY REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 17 MEMBERS POLICE TRAINING INSTITUTIONS IN ASIA, DIALOUGE PARTNERS AND OBSERVERS.  POLICE SENIOR SUPERINTENDENT FERDINAND REALTOR P BARTOLOME, DIRECTOR FOR POLICE SERVICES, REPRESENTED THE ASEANAPOL SECRETARIAT AS OBSERVER DURING THE MEETING.

AMONG THE HIGHLIGHTS OF THE MEETING WERE THE PRESENTATIONS OF MEMBER INSTITUTIONS OF THEIR RESPECTIVE FACILITIES, VISIONS AND MANDATES; PRESENTATION, DELIBERATION AND ADOPTION OF PROPOSED APTA PROTOCOL, DISCUSSION OF WAY-FORWARD, ELECTIONS OF PRESIDENT AND VICE-PRESIDENTS, HOSTING OF THE NEXT APTA GENERAL ASSEMBLY MEETING AND THE SIGNING OF THE ADOPTED APTA PROTOCOL BY THE HEADS OF THE DELEGATIONS.

MR. BUM-SOO SUH OF THE KOREAN NATIONAL POLICE UNIVERSITY WAS ELECTED FIRST PRESIDENT WHILE POLICE CHIEF SUPERINTENDENT JOSE ERWIN T. VILLACORTE OF THE NATIONAL POLICE TRAINING INSTITUTE OF THE PHILIPPINES AND COMMISSIONER PIYA UTHAYO OF THE ROYAL THAI POLICE CADET ACADEMY WERE VOTED AS VICE-PRESIDENTS OF THE ASSOCIATION. THE OCCASSION WAS VERY SUCCESSFUL AND THE NEXT MEETING WILL BE HOSTED AGAIN BY KOREAN NATIONAL POLICE UNIVERSITY IN THE 4TH QUARTER OF THE YEAR.
