ASEANAPOL and FREELAND Strengthen Action Against Wildlife Trafficking Through TRIPOD II in Vietnam

On 8–9 September 2026, ASEANAPOL, in cooperation with FREELAND, conducted TRIPOD II, a practical joint training activity in Hai Phong, Vietnam, bringing together law enforcement authorities and private-sector stakeholders to strengthen cooperation against wildlife trafficking.

The activity focused on practical approaches to detecting, investigating and disrupting wildlife trafficking through Hai Phong Port and related transportation routes, with particular attention to identifying suspicious shipments, tracing trafficking routes, and strengthening cooperation between law enforcement and relevant private-sector operators.

The ASEANAPOL Secretariat is committed to strengthening regional action against wildlife crime by building the operational capacity of countries and frontline agencies facing trafficking risks. Working with FREELAND, ASEANAPOL seeks to deliver targeted capacity building at strategic locations along wildlife trafficking routes, particularly ports and other major transportation and transit points.

This approach aims to move beyond classroom training by directing resources and expertise to locations where wildlife trafficking occurs or may be intercepted, enabling authorities and private-sector partners to better detect, prevent, investigate and disrupt illegal wildlife movements.

Through TRIPOD II and future cooperation with FREELAND, the ASEANAPOL Secretariat will continue to strengthen regional capabilities and promote coordinated, practical action against transnational wildlife crime.
