ASEANAPOL Secretariat Participates in the 7th ASEAN Workshop on Conflict and Human Rights
29 September 2026
The ASEANAPOL Secretariat participated in the 7th ASEAN Workshop on the Intersection between Conflict and Human Rights: Pathways and Approaches to Peace in ASEAN – Parts A and B, held from 28–29 September 2026 at Kuala Lumpur Tower, Malaysia.
The Secretariat was represented by Plans & Program Officer, DSP Khairul Izham Md Noh, and Police Services Officer, DSP Abdul Hamid Abdul Hashim. The workshop brought together representatives from ASEAN Member States, AICHR, ASEAN-IPR, government agencies, academia, civil society and other relevant stakeholders.
The workshop explored the intersection between human rights, conflict prevention and sustainable peace, highlighting that lasting peace extends beyond the absence of violence and requires justice, inclusion, dignity, equality, trust and meaningful participation. Discussions also underscored the importance of early prevention, human rights-based risk analysis, community engagement, timely information-sharing and stronger coordination among ASEAN institutions and relevant stakeholders.
A key discussion centred on the proposed ASEAN Peace Pathways Framework (PPF), which seeks to complement existing ASEAN mechanisms by enhancing coordination, coherence, knowledge-sharing and inclusive approaches to peacebuilding and conflict prevention.
From a law enforcement perspective, the workshop provided valuable insights for the ASEANAPOL Secretariat, particularly on early warning, timely information-sharing, preventive engagement and cross-sectoral cooperation. These principles are increasingly relevant to regional law enforcement efforts in addressing transnational and cross-border crimes, including scams, cyber-enabled crime, trafficking in persons and organised crime, which can undermine community safety, social stability and regional security.
The ASEANAPOL Secretariat remains committed to strengthening cooperation with ASEAN Member Countries and relevant regional stakeholders in support of a peaceful, secure, resilient, inclusive and people-centred ASEAN Community.
